Route suggestion: Start at Hillend lower car park. Follow the Capital View walk via the Castle-waymarkers, pass Caerketton Hill, and continue up to Allermuir Hill for the best vantage points .
- Why it’s great: From the top, you’ll see sweeping panoramas from Edinburgh’s skyline, to the Forth Bridges, and the sweeping Pentland ridges .
- Difficulty: Moderate – expect some steep sections but manageable overall .
- Best time: Clear days offer the most rewarding views worthy of a flask and camera. If planning on public transport, check route 4, 15, or 15A to Hillend .
